The minimal dreamy landscapes in the Meditations series serve as an opportunity for quiet contemplation and openness of the thought process. Inspired by my daily mindfulness meditation practice I wanted to depict those mental states in a visual form. However meditation is not easy and quite often our minds create a maze that is difficult to unravel. The noise in my head often reminds me of the beating of wings. Thus in contrasting figurative images the subject’s face is obscured with birds in flight echoing a sense of disorientation and confusion. She is surrounded with negative space as if suspended in nothingness—where everything exists yet is not realized, not seen.
